Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program
VITA is an IRS sponsored program that was established close to forty (40) years ago. The objective of the program is to provide undeserved communities with free tax filing assistance provided by trained IRS volunteers.

The program, administered by the IRS, originated with the Tax Reform Act of 1969 as part of the increased emphasis on Taxpayer Education Programs. The VITA Program offers free tax help for low-to-moderate income individuals who cannot afford professional assistance. Presently, there are more than 40,000 volunteers assisting in the VITA tax preparation program nationally. During 2007, volunteers filed more than 1.2 million tax returns at nearly 5,000 VITA sites nationwide.
Mabuhay Alliance has two (2) sites in San Diego County to serve our community. In spring 2008, Mabuhay Alliance helped more than 600 households for senior citizens and low income individuals.
