Mabuhay Alliance’s Housing Counseling Program provides services, advice and assistance to new and existing homeowners by assisting them in improving their housing conditions, and advising them on their leasing/homeownership rights and responsibilities.
VITA is an IRS sponsored program that was established close to forty (40) years ago. The objective of the program is to provide undeserved communities with free tax filing assistance provided by trained IRS volunteers.
A great program for small business owner or emerging entrepreneurs. Micro-Business Technical Assistance (MTA) is sponsored by AT & T in cooperation with University of San Diego which is hosted by the Mabuhay Alliance. This program is designed to provide “Micro-Business Owners” with the step-by-step “how to” training and skills to make the transition from being an effective business manager to a successful business owner. This program consist of five modules.
Unlike present micro-lending programs, our alternative model does not include sub prime lending rates and minimizes late fees and penalties. In the United States, most micro-lending programs have sub prime interest rates that are twice prevailing rates and often lead to the failure of the business, and certainly do not help the reputation of the institution. And, at least among Asian American borrowers in San Diego, this has appeared to minimize interest in taking out such loans. The fees are minimized in a large measure by upfront and ongoing technical assistance. Since its launch in September of this year, two loans have been funded, while four are on process.
This course is designed for high school, college students, teachers, mentors, and parents. Accredited by the University of the Pacific, this two day, interactive program provides high school students with transferable college credits accepted in any college in the United States as a general elective course. Teachers K-12 also receive salary advancement credits that are accepted in any state, except Ohio. The program includes lessons on identifying your financial DNA, creation of wealth and the millionaire mind, saving thousands of dollars with a high FICO score, do’s and don’ts of owning your first home, and so much more! This Mabuhay Alliance program has educated over 500 individuals.
The LIEE program provides no-cost weatherization services to low-income households who meet the CARE (California Alternative Rates to Energy) income guidelines. Services provided include attic insulation, energy efficient refrigerators, energy efficient furnaces, weather-stripping, caulking, low-flow showerheads, water heater blankets, and door and building envelope repairs which reduce air infiltration.
