Congress Votes for 15 Week Extension For Conversion to Digital TV as Requested by Mabuhay Alliance
Posted On: February 9, 2009
San Diego, CA – On February 4th, Congress passed the bill to extend the time of conversion from analog to digital TV by 15 weeks (from February 17th to June 12th).
Mabuhay Alliance was the only minority group to urge Congress to extend the time for the digital TV conversion from February 17th.
Mabuhay Alliance also requested in its petition to Congress that $1 billion be allocated to assist in this conversion. The Obama economic stimulus plan presently has $650 million allocated for digital TV.
Mabuhay Alliance will be visiting with the FCC and key members of the Obama Administration on March 10th to urge that San Diego , as previously requested by Mabuhay Alliance, service a pilot program for full conversion to digital TV. This can best be achieved by community nonprofits in coordination with the FCC.
Faith Bautista, President and CEO of Mabuhay Alliance said, “What Congress has done is a demonstration of the importance of community groups such as Mabuhay Alliance playing a significant role in public policy and advocacy.”
